Chinese Poetry Ambassador Nie Zirui invites you to recite The Deer Enclosure

Hello, everyone! I'm the Chinese Poetry Ambassador Nie Zirui. I come from the United States. I currently work at China Daily in Beijing. Now, I have a special entry point into Chinese poetry — my children's homework. So today, I am going to recite with them a poem that is also very meaningful to us. Today I will read this poem "The Deer Enclosure" to you.

In pathless hills no man's in sight. But I still hear echoing sound. In gloomy forest peeps no light. But sunbeams slant on mossy ground. This poem reminds us of our own little mountain. On the mountain there is a treehouse. And the ground is covered with green moss.

Every July, my family and I go back there to camp. Watching the sunset glow fall on the moss. From both sides of the mountain, we can hear each other talking, but we cannot see each other. That is why we like "The Deer Enclosure". This poem connects time and space, from the Tang Dynasty to today, from China to the United States, from Beijing to Michigan. Sharing this poem means sharing our lives.

We make friends through poetry, and convey emotions with our voices. All international friends are welcome to join "ECHOES OF FRIENDSHIP" 2026 Chinese Poetry Recital by International Friends in Beijing.
