November 20, 2022 marks the 68th World Children’s Day. Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (BPAFFC) actively participated in the commemorative activity co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, UNICEF China and China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development, as well as coordinated the efforts to light up the exterior of the Beijing Olympic Tower and Big Air Shougang with blue light that symbolizes child-friendliness, and project the words such as “World Children’s Day” and “Lighten Children’s Future”. The event was held with strong support from the Chaoyang District People’s Government and Shougang Group.

Beijing is the world’s first city to host both the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics. The Beijing Olympic Tower, situated on the central axis, is the highest structure in the Olympic Sports Center Area. Beijing is the world’s second city to have independently and permanently installed the Olympic rings logo after Montreal, Canada. The Olympic Tower shining blue light symbolizes the Olympic spirit of world peace, friendship, and solidarity, and is a call to action for the world to give more attention to and safeguard the basic rights of children and promote world peace and development.

The unmatched 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics marked China’s emergence as a big power in winter sports. As the world’s first permanent venue for a big air event, Big Air Shougang was favored by athletes during the Beijing Winter Olympics, and has become a winter Olympic venue and city landmark open to the public after the Olympics. The UNICEF logo and the theme of this year’s commemorative event projected on the tracks of Big Air Shougang express the wishes of Beijing people for children all over the world, and are the crowning item in this year’s commemorative event in China!

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) was founded in 1946 as a United Nations agency. For forty years, UNICEF China has been working with the Chinese Government to enhance the well-being of Chinese children. World Children’s Day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1989. China ratified the Convention in 1992. UNICEF and its partners call for creating an inclusive living environment for every child and an end to all forms of discrimination.
