Beijing Science Popularization Troupe makes its first debut at Beijing Tianqiao Performance Arts Center

The inaugural meeting of Beijing Museum of Science Education Association was held in Beijing on March 8. It announced the establishment of Beijing Science Popularization Troupe. Beijing Science Popularization Troupe aims to better promote science education among teenagers, enrich Beijing's innovation culture and significantly improve the scientific quality of all Chinese citizens. That night, Beijing Science Popularization Troupe made its first debut - Leap of the Central Axis (Feiyue Zhongzhouxian) at Beijing Tianqiao Performance Arts Center. The play is a science show for children, and is guided by Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST) and jointly produced by Beijing Science Center, Beijing SN Aoni Culture Media Co., Ltd., and Beijing Jinying Zongheng Performing Arts Media Co., Ltd. Ma Lin, secretary of Party Leadership Group of BAST, Sima Hong, executive vice president of BAST, and other leaders were present and watched the show.

Leap of the Central Axis (Feiyue Zhongzhouxian) told the story of a grandfather who was sent to a high-grade nursing home and couldn't bear loneliness making a successful escape with the help of his granddaughter Chunni and her friend Mendun and Duge in the ancient and mysterious city Beijing. The grandfather who was stubborn and lovely was an architect. But his memory kept getting worse recently. He always forgot the people and things before his eyes and mistook someone for another, but was deeply impressed by the remote memory. When the above-mentioned children helped the grandfather to retrieve his memory, the grandfather used the scientific knowledge, scientific methods, scientific thoughts and scientific spirit to show the audience the scientific culture with unique charm of Beijing.
During the show, the humorous performance of actors made the children in front of the stage laugh. The “mode” change of confused and  conscious grandfather, lively and lovely Chunni, clever and “sweet” Mendun and knowledgeable Duge left a very deep impression on the audience.

The show presented the audience with ins and outs of scientific knowledge in a vivid and interesting manner. For example, the echo wall of the Temple of Heaven made “magic” sound due to its standardized design of circumference ratio and smooth building wall; 6 main bodies of the Luban Lock could be dismantled with a pithy formula; the roof structure of the Imperial Palace came down in one continuous line with the Luban lock; morning bell and evening drum were used to tell the time as different sounds had different impacts on individual psychology; the principle of ship lock classification allowed the ships in Beijing to go from east to west only in the terrain high in the west and low in the east; the special meaning of Chinese tunic suits and the ins and outs of building Beijing Science Center on the central axis of Beijing were explained, making the audience learn knowledge and make progress in joy through performances and stories.

Beijing Science Popularization Troupe featured by "non-entity, alliance and platform" will build an open incentive platform for development, funding, selection, international exchange and team construction of top-quality science shows, and provide services to units and individuals engaged in composition, development, cultural creativity, science communication, performance creation and promotion of science show. Beijing Science Popularization Troupe implements a registration system, and mainly serves science, cultural performance, cultural and creative and educational institutions, groups and people from all walks of life. It brings together social forces to jointly promote prosperity and development of the science show, and plays a more important role in supporting and serving the National Science and Technology Innovation Center and constructing an innovative country.
