Opening of the Ninth Beijing International Film Festival Youth Science Imaging Unit and the First Beijing International Youth Science Imaging Exhibition

On the morning of April 12, 2019, the opening ceremony of the 9th Beijing International Film Festival Youth Science Imaging Unit and the 1st Beijing International Youth Science Imaging Exhibition (hereinafter referred to as "event") was held at Beijing Science Center. The event is a newly-added unit for the 9th Beijing International Film Festival, under the guidance of Beijing Science and Technology Association, co-sponsored by Beijing Youth Science and Technology Center and Beijing Youth Science and Technology Education Association, and assisted by Beijing Science Center and Green Orange Creator Research Institute. With "Exploring Science and Flying Dream" as the theme, this event aimed at enlightening teenagers' scientific dream, improving their scientific quality, helping teenagers to serve h their country through science, and show their spiritual outlook and cultural self-confidence with Chinese style and capital feelings. Through relevant activities, teenagers can get close contact with the frontier science and technology of the film industry, experience the scientific charm and artistic beauty of the film and television works, and contribute to the 70th birthday of New China by creating excellent scientific image works for teenagers.

Sima Hong, standing vice-chairman of Beijing Association of Science and Technology, Zheng Liping, member and vice-chairman of the Party Group of Hebei Association of Science and Technology, Sun Xiaofeng, member and vice-chairman of the Party Group of Beijing Association of Science and Technology, Jiang Dongmei, a famous environmental expert, founder of the International Youth Science Discovery Image Competition and honorary dean of Hong Kong Academy of Youth Sciences, Wei Hongxiang, associate researcher of Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ke Zhonghua, director of Science Popularization Division of Xinhua, Li Ting, director of Science Popularization Activities of China Association of Science and Technology Youth Science Center, Zhao Bo, vice director of Beijing TV Financial and Economic Programming Center, Zhang Xiaohu, director of Beijing Youth Science Center, He Suxing, director of Beijing Science Center, and other leaders and guests attended the opening ceremony. Sun Xiaofeng issued a letter of engagement for Lining, image ambassador of this event. More than 200 people including representatives of teachers and students from Russia, Czech Republic, Hong Kong and Macao, and young people and teachers, guests and media from Beijing participated in the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Sima Hong, on behalf of Beijing Association of Science and Technology, welcomed the guests and thanked the Organizing Committee of Beijing Film Festival for its support. Sima Hong said that young people's scientific image works were included in Beijing International Film Festival for the first time this year, which effectively promoted the creation and promotion of scientific image resources, gave impetus to the high-end and international development of youth science image exhibition evaluation activities, encouraged and led more young people to learn and use network and multimedia technology, and experience and master the methods and processes of scientific inquiry, and develop their scientific emotions, attitudes and values.  In the future, Beijing Association of Science and Technology will strengthen publicity and promotion, resource sending and activity guidance, create better conditions for the majority of young people to participate in and experience scientific image activities, let scientific image activities more widely into the campus, into the classroom and around young people, and stimulate the interest of young students in exploring science.

The opening ceremony was full of special effects of sound, light and shadow. With the help of holographic image effect and Jasmine -- a traditional Chinese song as contrast, the film leaped out of the retro TV set and slowly circled the field. Accompanied by the audience's rhythmic applause, logo of this event symbolizing the rising sun rose from the sea level. The on-site atmosphere was warm and mysterious. Under the leadership of the host, the audience jointly spliced the logo badge, and shouted "Welcome to Beijing" together, which mobilized the atmosphere of the whole audience and drew everybody closer. Lining, image ambassador of this event and winner of "Golden Magic Wand Award" of the 16th Monte Carlo International Magic Star Competition, enthusiastically interacted with the audience and performed scientific magic with the selected young audience. At the end, the leaders and guests jointly launched the activities in the form of punchboard.

A short and wonderful red carpet ceremony was held before the opening ceremony. Representatives of teachers and students, dressed in formal clothes and high spirits, walked through the red carpet covered with students' creative posters, signed their names in the interview area and recorded Douyin videos with full personality.

It is reported that 141 entries were received before the event, including 73 scientific documentaries, 48 scientific microfilms and 20 popular science animations. Thirty-eight entries were invited to participate in the exhibition. Teachers, students and guests from Russia, Czech Republic, Hong Kong and Macao were invited to participate in the event. All the works were created and completed by youngsters themselves. In the next three days, there will be activities such as Science Image Salon, Science Image Sharing, Workshop on Science Image and Traditional Culture, and Carnival Experience of Beijing Film Festival.
