On March 30, the "2019 Earth Hour" Lights-out Campaign, "Connect to Earth," sponsored by the Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges (Beijing NGO) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), was held successfully at the Beijing Olympic Tower.

Landscape lights went out as scheduled around landmark buildings, such as the Beijing Drum Tower, Beihai White Pagoda, Jingshan and Qianmen Street. The "Earth Hour" event called on the public to protect the earth. It was also a warm-up event for the UN Biodiversity Conference.

More than 50 celebrities joined WWF's volunteer team and used the Internet to rally support for "Earth Hour."and no longer ordering takeout, and pledged together to protect the environment.
Beijing NGO President Zhao Wenzhi attended the campaign and spoke highly of such an event geared at protecting the environment. Together with Xie Zhenhua, China’s special representative on climate change affairs, she presented thank-you letters to the star volunteers. Jean-Paul Paddack, executive director for network development at WWF, said that every step forward China takes in environmental protection would play a decisive role in the world.

Launched by WWF, "Earth Hour" is the world's largest public welfare campaign on environmental protection, covering more than 7,000 cities in more than 180 countries and regions. It has attracted hundreds of millions of supporters and aims at inspiring people to develop a sense of responsibility to protect the earth, think about environmental issues such as climate change, and take concrete action.
