Dashan (aka Mark Rowswell), the most famous Canadian in China, is sending a cordial invitation to international friends in Beijing. He shares his deep appreciation for classical Chinese poetry, observing that poetry captures emotions shared by all human beings. Whether it be the Tang dynasty poet Li Bai’s yearning for his homeland or the Song dynasty scholar Su Shi’s reflection on life’s ups and downs, their sentiments resonate with every reader once language barriers are overcome. Chinese poetry belongs to humanity, and this is precisely the deeper purpose of the poetry recital event. Reciting poetry is not merely an act of learning, but a profound engagement and immersive experience that enables us to connect with the common emotions that unite humanity.
