“Amazing Lecture!”: Online Dialogue on People-to-people Exchanges and Cooperation Continues

On May 15, the “Overcoming Difficulties: Webinar for International Friendship Organizations on Prevention and Control of COVID-19” was held in Beijing with success. The webinar was jointly organized by the Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges, and the Beijing Medical Women’s Association. The webinar drew over one hundred participants from 22 nations in all five continents, consisting of representatives of NGOs, medical experts, and media personnel.

Dr. Nie Xiuhong, director of Respiratory medicine department, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, and Ms. Li Yan, head of Beijing’s medical team to Wuhan, gave presentations on the diagnosis and treatment protocols of COVID-19 from both theoretical and practical aspects and shared the frontline clinical experience in Wuhan Union Hospital.

During the discussion session, the two experts answered the questions raised by representatives from 11 countries, including Pakistan, Indonesia, Greece, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Belgium, India, Bangladesh, Australia, the Maldives, and Nepal. The questions covered the application of drugs, patient immunity, plasma treatment, development of vaccine, quarantine and treatment of patients with mild symptoms and children patients, among other issues.

The participants spoke highly of the webinar and appreciated the two Beijing doctors’ unreserved sharing of their experience that can serve as a reference for the pandemic control in their own countries.
