The BPAFFC welcomed the visiting delegation of the New Zealand China Friendship Society (NZCFS) led by its national president Brett O’Riley on June 24. Wang Yu, Executive Vice President of the BPAFFC, met with the delegation. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on deepening people-to-people friendship and expanding pragmatic cooperation between the two regions.
During the meeting, Wang Yu first congratulated Brett O’Riley on his election as national president of the NZCFS, and spoke highly of his positive role in promoting subnational exchanges between China and New Zealand. He noted that over the years, the two associations have hosted seminars on municipal development, cultural tourism, and the digital economy, while vigorously promoting professional talent exchanges and mutual learning. These efforts have set a benchmark for subnational pragmatic cooperation. He looked forward to continued cooperation with the NZCFS in the fields of cultural and people‑to‑people exchanges, youth friendship, economic and trade relations, and professional talent development, thus making more significant contributions to China-New Zealand friendship.
Brett O’Riley thanked the BPAFFC for its strong, consistent support for the NZCFS, and looked back on his decades of commitment to the bilateral friendship. Noting that 2027 marks the 100th anniversary of New Zealander Rewi Alley’s arrival in China, he expressed the hope to co-organize a series of commemorative activities with the BPAFFC and other organizations, so as to boost the traditional friendship between the two countries, and explore effective ways to broaden pragmatic cooperation.
