From July 5 to 9, the CPAFFC hosted an 11-member Canadian First Nations delegation in Beijing. On July 7, the BPAFFC arranged for the delegation to visit Shijingshan District, where they witnessed firsthand how the previous center of heavy industry has evolved into a city landmark.
The delegation took a tour of Shougang Park, a classic case of urban renewal in Beijing. At Big Air Shougang, they overlooked the park and saw the remarkable transformation of Shougang from a century-old industrial base into a futuristic hub for the sci-fi industry, a permanent venue for international exhibitions, and a new landmark of urban revitalization. The visitors were amazed at the magnificent curves of the “Snow Flying Ribbon” and gained deep insight into the “Chinese solution” to the sustainable post‑Games use of Winter Olympic venues. They commended the transformation of these Olympic venues from competitive arenas into spaces for mass sports, everyday recreation, and cultural performances.
In the Future Digital Quarter, the delegation members immersed themselves in a tech landscape where “the future is now”: frontier fields such as immersive sci‑fi exhibitions, gaming and esports, metaverse interaction, virtual reality, and intelligent robots are all in reach.
At the Humanoid Robot Data Training Center, the delegation learned in detail about its scale, strategic significance, and long‑term development plans. They also observed and had hands-on experience with the dynamic training process of the robots, expressing appreciation for Beijing’s pacesetting efforts in AI research and development and robotic applications.
Through the enriching visit, the delegation felt the pulse of urban renewal and industrial transformation in Beijing, the first and the only city that has hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
