On February 28, Wang Yanxia, Vice President of the BPAFFC, met with the visiting three-member Ethiopian delegation led by Muhammed Seid, head of political and public diplomacy of the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing.

Wang Yanxia introduced the basic information and functions of the BPAFFC to the guests, highlighting cultural exchanges within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) such as the China-Africa friendship football match, the China-Africa story sharing session, and the African cultural tourism exhibition. She extended a warm invitation to the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing to participate in the cultural and sports events organized by the BPAFFC, and welcomed people from all walks of life in Ethiopia to visit Beijing and together foster closer people-to-people exchanges and practical cooperation in various areas.

H.E. Muhammed Seid reviewed the exchanges between Ethiopia and China and stressed that the Silk Road has closely connected the two countries with cultural similarities, a long history, and close political and economic relations. He looked to strengthen people-to-people exchanges and practical cooperation with the BPAFFC to enhance mutual understanding and affinity between the people of the two countries.

China and Ethiopia upgraded their relationship to an all-weather strategic partnership of cooperation in October 2023. Since Ethiopia’s entry into the BRICS mechanism in 2024, bilateral relations have achieved all-round and rapid development. This year, the two countries plan to carry out a wide array of activities marking the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Ethiopia will send artists to China to present music shows, and also invite Chinese friends and media delegations to visit Ethiopia to promote local cultural and tourism resources.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on cooperation in multiple areas. They agreed to further strengthen ties, jointly translate the FOCAC outcomes into action, implement the ten partnership actions, especially the Partnership Action for People-to-People Exchanges, leverage civil society, and take concrete action to advance the building of a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.
