Romanian Artists Get a Taste of Beijing’s Unique Cultural Charm

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Romania. At the invitation of the Romanian Cultural Institute Beijing, a five-member delegation of Romanian artists led by Marina Almășan, a columnist of Romania’s national television channel TVR, paid a visit to Beijing from February 21 to 26.

The BPAFFC welcomed the visiting delegation on February 22. Wang Yanxia, Vice President of the BPAFFC, introduced the main functions of the BPAFFC and reviewed its work in recent years in economic exchanges and trade, cultural interactions, youth exchanges, and other areas. Marina Almășan introduced the members of the delegation and their shows in Beijing.

Wang Yanxia commended the active efforts made by Ms. Almășan over the years to promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, including her book that helps Romanian people get a deeper understanding of China. Wang Yanxia also invited Romanian youngsters to participate in the “Colorful World” International Youth Painting Invitational Exhibition and the “Joy Dancing Beijing” Cultural and Art Exchange Week of International Youth to be held in Beijing this year. The two sides made in-depth discussions on artistic exchanges and youth exchanges, among other topics.

Wang Yanxia showed the delegation around the office area and gave an overview of the history and architecture of the BPAFFC. The delegation showcased great interest in the colored patterns and carved lacquerware of the architecture, as well as the paintings and calligraphy on display, saying these give them a glimpse of the brilliant Chinese architecture and culture and the philosophy of harmony between human and nature.

The delegation took a tour around the EVE Castle in Beijing Garden Expo Park and communicated with the design team of EVE Group. At the EVE · China Handicraft Workshop, Shenshan Marketplace, and other exhibition halls, they enjoyed the special patterns of over 30 ethnic groups and the exquisite clothes and household items handmade by local embroiderers. Sorina Tulan, a Romanian fashion designer, were full of praise for the hand-embroidered garments. She said that combining modern aesthetics and traditional ethnic costumes is a truly meaningful innovation, and such design concept can be found in Romania as well.

During their stay in Beijing, the delegation also visited Qianmen, the Palace Museum, the Great Wall, and other cultural landmarks, immersing themselves in the unique charm of the capital city featuring a blend of rich history and culture and modern elements.
