The BPAFFC Attends a Speech held by Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo

On August 28, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (the CPAFFC) hosted a speech for Yuriko Koike, the Governor of Tokyo. The Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (the BPAFFC) organized more than 30 staff and council members to attend the event.

Governor Koike introduced Japan's relevant situation and useful experience regarding women's employment, garbage classification and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She pointed out that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the sister-city relationship between Tokyo and Beijing. During her meeting with Cai Qi, Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and Chen Jining, Mayor of Beijing, they all expressed hope on expanding and deepening exchanges and cooperation in the areas of Olympic preparations, post-competition usage of the venues and facilities, scientific and technological innovation, urban planning, health care, and youth development, etc. Governor Koike answered questions regarding her feelings of this visit to Beijing after many years. She replied by covering the following points: first of all, the city is cleaner and tidier; second, Beijingers drive their cars in a more civilized and standardized way; and third, Beijing's women are more confident and more beautiful. She hopes that women will play an even more important role in the development and communication between the two countries in the future.

Yuriko Koike , a member of House of Representatives of Japan since 1992, Former Minister of the Environment, Former Minister of Defence, elected to Governor of Tokyo in 2016, and this was her first visit to Beijing after the election.
