“One Thousand Chinese and Japanese Students Exchange Activity” in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the singing of the China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty was held in Peking University on August 29. A delegation of Japan-China Friendship Association, made up of 109 members and led by Mr. Shoji NISHIBORI, Managing Director of the Japan-China Friendship Association, visited China from August 27 to September 2; The Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (the BPAFFC) received the delegation.
Zhang Fusen, honorary president of the BPAFFC, met with the delegation on August 28. He expressed his wish for Chinese and Japanese students to rekindle the spirit of the Treaty, promote mutual understandings and strive to serve as the bridge of friendship between China and Japan. In the welcoming reception for the delegation, Tian Yan, executive vice president of the BPAFFC, and Wang Wan, counselor of the Embassy of China in Japan, delivered speeches to encourage Chinese and Japanese students to pass on friendship, learn from each other and promote the continuous development of friendship between China and Japan. Japanese students and students of Beijing International Studies University put on wonderful performances and exchanged ideas to renew the friendship.
On August 29, Chinese and Japanese students participated in various cultural exchange activities in Peking University. They had in-depth experiences in 11 schools of Peking University in groups, and attended activities of the School of International Studies, the Baseball Association, the Mountaineering Association, the Painting and Calligraphy Association and the Yuanhuo Animation and Comics Association of the University.
The delegation will also visit Hangzhou and Shanghai to exchange views with young students there. This visit gave the Japanese students an opportunity to know China in an all-round way, and would enhance mutual understanding and consolidate the friendship foundation between Chinese and Japanese youths.
