Beijing in the Eyes of Mayor of San Salvador

From July 24 to 28, Ernesto Muyshondt, mayor of San Salvador, the capital of Salvador, visited Beijing to mark the approaching first anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Salvador.

At the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall, Muyshondt learned about Beijing’s urban development progress through a city planning model based on a high-definition aerial map. The introduction about the public emergency system, traffic monitoring system and Majialou refuse transfer station helped the foreign guests get a sense of Beijing’s refined and smart urban management and its eco-friendly development. Then, Muyshondt and his delegation visited Baidu, Inc. and tried its driverless vehicle, an example of the flourishing high techs in Beijing, such as big data and artificial intelligence.

Muyshondt said that Beijing is a metropolis under sophisticated management, with a traffic monitoring system monitoring the real-time location of taxis and metro traffic and a refuse disposal system for enclosed deodorization and waste sorting and recycling. He hoped that these could be realized in San Salvador in the near future. He said that Beijing is an eco-friendly and beautiful city. The green areas and city parks dotted among the modern and high-rise buildings have greatly improved citizens’ life quality, which also serves as a good example for San Salvador.
