From July 16 to 20, a youth culture delegation from the Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (the BPAFFC) and the Beijing International Studies University (BISU) visited Germany at the invitation of the Mainz-Wiesbaden German-Chinese Friendship Association. In the evenings of July 16 and 17, the delegation and a local youth Akabella group held two joint shows respectively at the Rhineland-Palatinate State Music Academy and the Mainze State Museum.

The Rhineland-Palatinate State Music Academy is located at a summer palace built by the Archbishop of Trier in the 18th century, while the Mainze State Museum is a stunning example of baroque architecture with a history of over two hundred years. Under an atmosphere of history and culture, each stone and sculpture added a layer of sophistication to this arts exchange event. At the packed music hall, the Chinese and German choruses co-performed a high-level musical feast covering 22 world-famous classical songs, earning rapturous applause throughout.

The youth culture exchange program between the BISU and the Rhineland-Palatinate State Music Academy was established with the help of the BPAFFC and the Association of German Chinese Friendship Societies. This is the first-ever visit by the BISU student chorus to Germany since launching this program. Last year, a Rhineland-Palatinate State Music Academy delegation led by its Art Director Rolf Ehlers had paid a visit to Beijing. The visit bolstered efforts to build mutual understanding between the Chinese and German youth, showcased a positive image of Beijing college students and life, and set a good example for the BPAFFC and the BISU to further strengthen foreign youth exchanges.
